Rosalind Pengelly

Rosalind Pengelly writes the game analysis on this site. For nine years she has taken slot rules apart line by line and rebuilt them as explanations a player can actually use: what a feature does, how often it tends to appear and what it can realistically pay.

How she works

From a rules sheet to a page worth reading

Rosalind studied statistics at the University of Exeter and started her career on the testing side of the industry, logging how bonus features behaved against the design documents of a small game studio. That job taught her to distrust any description of a feature until she had watched it play out hundreds of times.

Since moving into editorial work she has written about several hundred releases, from classic line slots to cluster pays, coin-collect mechanics and crash games. Her focus is always the same: separate what the maths guarantees from what only happens on a lucky day, and say clearly which is which. She pays particular attention to the small print that changes a game between markets, such as disabled features, stake limits and alternative RTP settings, because those details decide what a reader will actually see on screen.

On this site she covers Great Game Rockies from the ground up, including its star-based Hunt logic, the three-tier bonus ladder and the four RTP settings casinos can choose from. Every draft she writes goes to Crispin Maudsley for an independent check before it is published.

If a number cannot be traced to the game rules or the provider's data, it does not appear on the page.

Method

How a game page is built

Four steps, in the same order for every game, so that no page skips the slow parts.

1

Read the full rules

Every paytable entry, feature condition and footnote is read before a single spin, including the parts most players skip.

2

Play a long sample

Demo sessions run to hundreds of spins with notes on triggers, feature results and dry spells, so descriptions reflect real rhythm rather than one screenshot.

3

Cross-check the data

RTP settings, volatility, hit rate and the win cap are compared with the provider's published figures, and any mismatch is flagged.

4

Write and hand over

The draft explains each mechanic in plain terms, names the risks and goes to the reviewer with sources attached.

Specialisms

What she covers

Mechanic design

how collectors, multipliers, upgrades and scatters interact inside one spin.

Return and risk

RTP settings, volatility and what they mean over a real session.

Bonus structures

trigger conditions, retriggers and the difference between common and rare rounds.

Player protection

stake limits, session tools and the signs that play needs a pause.

Every page gets a second pair of eyes

Before publication, Crispin Maudsley checks each figure and feature description against the source data.
